Fast Steering Mirrors
Axsys Technologies has applied extensive heritage designing and building opto-mechanical systems to the development of fast steering mirror technology.  The single-axis and two-axis, flexure mounted, fast steering mirror (FSM) represents a compact, low cost, high performance design solution for a variety of emerging optical scanning and beam stabilization applications.  Such devices may be used to correct for polygon cross scan errors in prepress imaging, acquire and lock beams within free space laser telecom systems, modulate tilt and cavity control in interferometers, maintain beam stabilization in the presence of thermal drift and vibration, and provide general two axis beam scanning.

Pointing and Scanning Gimbals
Scanning/Pointing Gimbals are used to redirect a laser beam with high precision. They are ideal for targeting systems, as well as scientific and commercial applications.

Axsys Technologies' two-axis gimbal is designed to sustain environmental and performance requirements typical of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) sensor systems, as well as other military, scientific, and commercial applications. The gimbal embodies compact direct drive brushless DC motors, high-precision rotary encoders, precision ball bearings and optional solid state gyroscopic sensors.

Axsys Technologies' high-speed gimbal uses high torque, direct-drive brushless DC motors to deliver ultra fast point-to-point movement with milli-radian accuracy. A 90-degree azimuth, 45-degree elevation combined move can be performed in less than 20 milliseconds, including settle.

Nodding Scanners
Axsys Technologies' high precision nodding scanners are designed and manufactured in both open and closed loop configurations. These sophisticated scanners perform with precision and reliability under the harshest environmental conditions and are used in guidance and tracking, thermal imaging systems and targeting sights applications. Axsys' scanners incorporate state-of-the-art control techniques covered by several patents.
