Axsys Technologies, a public company with sales of $200M and multiple operating divisions located throughout the US, manufactures and sells a broad range of high performance electro-mechanical and electro-optical components and sub-assemblies to the aerospace, defense, electronics capital equipment, graphic arts and medical imaging markets. We presently have a need for a Network Technician for our Rochester Hills, MI location.

This position is responsible for the design and manufacture of diverse optical components and systems for commercial, aerospace, defense and scientific research. Responsibilities include: proposal generation, opto-mechanical design of optics and metrology, assembly and alignment planning, engineering program management, and various optical engineering program duties as assigned.

The required qualifications for this position include:

• US Citizen or US Person Status
• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Software
• Experience or knowledge of optics and optical principles is desired
• Experience in finite element analysis with COSMOS, computer aided design with Solidworks or optical design with ZEMAX is desired
• Strong Mechanical Design background encompassing CAD assembly, detail design processes and the use of GD&T
• Knowledge of optical metrology and optical assembly is highly desired
• Excellent communication skills
• Solid planning/time management skills and the ability to interact with all levels of leadership

The essential functions of this job include:

• Generate proposals for optical components and systems
• Design tooling and alignment fixtures required to fabricate optical components
• Author and execute test plans and test procedures related to aspheric mirrors and systems
• Manage project tasks and interface with suppliers as required
• Create and maintain engineering program files
• Author bills of materials, manufacturing processes and project status reports
