Axsys Technologies, a $200M public company, with multiple operating divisions located throughout the US, manufactures and sells a broad range of high performance electro-mechanical and electro-optical components and sub-assemblies to the aerospace, defense, electronics capital equipment, graphic arts and medical-imaging markets. Our IR Systems division in Nashua, NH produces precision infrared and visible optical components for use in high-end military and commercial applications.

Basic Function
Designs, develops, and tests all aspects of optical components, assemblies, and equipment. May use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform assignments. Possesses strong knowledge in optical metrology techniques. Applies principles and techniques of optical engineering to accomplish goals. Demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. May provide consultation on complex projects. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Support the production floor by providing the necessary tooling/fixturing/equipment and analysis of design for assembly to accurately and repeatedly assemble and test products.
  • Support the material management process from initial design through supplier selection through discrepant material evaluation and root cause analysis
  • Assist in preparing manufacturing assembly/test procedures.
  • May provide conceptual design input for new products and may provide recommendations to modify existing products for manufacturability
  • Provide assistance in troubleshooting technical design problems
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Education,Training:
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering and 5-10 years of experience in a field related to optical product design.

Experience:

  • Experience in an optical and mechanical manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge in optical metrology techniques, application of optical design processes and fabrication methods.
  • Proficient with optical design software (Zemax preferred).
